Day One

Well, you could say that was an adventure but that doesn't quite do it justice. I'm back from my wolf hunt which turned into blizzard survival and a significant emotional event so to speak but I'm getting ahead of myself. Because of the number of days and pictures plus video and a less than stupendous internet connection I'm going to have tell the tale over a series of posts.

Day One, the last normal day.

The ride in was uneventful, virtually no one on the road the day after Thanksgiving in the north country which suited me just fine. There was a singular set of tracks heading into the National forest, the snow was about six or eight inches deep and I could see they went in and then came right back out. The video below has some of the drive in, rather pretty country in my own humble opinion.

Once I got to the trail head I parked the truck and unloaded the quad and gear and headed the final six miles into the back country to the camp spot I picked near a smallish unnamed lake. Wolf and deer tracks were everywhere, lots of fresh sign and after I arrived at the camp site I could hear howling in the distance, something that put a smile on my face as I worked and listened to their voices on the wind.

Before this trip was over I would come to feel very differently about their howling.

Here's the video which covers pretty much everything on Day One. Initially I had recorded and intended to upload the HD version, however the difference between 220mb vs over 850mb and five hours I'm putting the non HD version up. When I get a chance and access to highspeed I'll swap it out for the HD version.

I'll try to finish editing and get part 2 up later in the week. I leave for Philadelphia bright and early and have a jam packed week but hopefully I'll still get it done and up.

Thanks for looking!

  9. You are not a carpenter until you "cut" your finger. If you "cut" all your fingers you are not a carpenter. The point is mistakes only happen whenyou are off the couch trying to make something happen. Sounds like you managed the ice and wet well. Looking forward to reading the rest.
